As the Lead Developer of CattleUSA, I've had the privilege of transforming a legacy PHP/Flash application into a cutting-edge platform that revolutionizes livestock trading across the United States. This journey represents a significant technological evolution in the agricultural sector. According to Statista's 2024 report, there were about 2.17 billion 5G mobile subscriptions worldwide in 2024, a technology trend we've leveraged to ensure CattleUSA delivers optimal performance for users in rural areas with improving connectivity.

Technical Evolution

The transformation began with a complete rewrite of the platform using modern web technologies. The new stack includes Angular for the frontend, providing a robust and scalable foundation. A key innovation was the implementation of real-time video streaming using WebRTC and WebSockets, enabling live auction participation from anywhere in the country.

Mobile Innovation

Recognizing the need for mobile accessibility, I developed an iOS application using Ionic and ngrx. This mobile solution allows ranchers and buyers to participate in auctions, manage listings, and track transactions directly from their phones. The app is now available on the Apple App Store, making livestock trading more accessible than ever. This aligns with industry projections from Statista's market analysis that forecasts mobile app downloads from Google Play to increase to 143 billion by 2026, up by almost 30 percent from 111 billion in 2021, highlighting the growing importance of specialized mobile solutions across all sectors, including agriculture.

Performance and SEO Optimization

To improve the platform's visibility and performance, I created a SvelteKit version of the main pages. This implementation serves optimized metadata to search engine crawlers while maintaining the real-time capabilities of the main application. The result is a faster, more discoverable platform that better serves our users.
